The Healing Power of Turmeric: My Testimony

I’m excited to share an inspiring testimony of my personal experience with turmeric with the expectation that it might offer hope and insight to the diabetic community and provoke further research of Turmeric.

This is an account of how turmeric boosted my insulin sensitivity, reduced my blood sugar levels, and freed me from the debilitating symptoms of diabetic neuropathy.

Turmeric and Its Promising Role in Diabetes Care

Diabetes Management is highly demanding especially for adults above fifty of which I am one. It often requires a multifaceted cum informed approach.

While conventional treatments remain the cornerstone for treatment of diabetes, there are complementary options that may be explored to enhance overall diabetic health among which is turmeric.

Turmeric and Its Active Compound, Curcumin

Turmeric, scientifically known as Curcuma longan or Curcumin is a plant belonging to the ginger family. Its root has been a staple spice  in Asian cuisine and used to treat many medical conditions for thousands of years.

The secret behind turmeric’s potential health benefits lies in its active compound, curcumin, which boasts impressive anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar levels

Modern research supports these claims, showing that curcumin can:

Reduce Inflammation: Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory properties help alleviate conditions such as arthritis, gout, and other inflammatory diseases.

Improve Cognitive Function: Turmeric may help prevent or slow the progression of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Support Immune Function: Turmeric’s antimicrobial properties can help combat infections and promote overall immune health.

Lower Cholesterol Levels: Turmeric has been shown to reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol, contributing to a healthier cardiovascular system.

My Testimony

Turmeric, often referred to as the “Golden Tea,” has been immensely helpful in controlling my blood sugar levels by eliminating insulin resistance and reducing my levels from 169 mg/dl (9.39 mmol/L) to 83 mg/dl (4.6 mmol/L) within six weeks.

My Battle with Diabetes

I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2011, and I am now in my fifties. Recently, my blood sugar levels became high and uncontrollable despite the medications I was taking. I began to suffer from diabetic neuropathy, experiencing severe pain, stabbing sensations, and frequent urination, even when I was careful with my diet.

Upon examination, I was found to have elevated liver enzymes. My doctors prescribed various statins, such as Rosuvastatin and Atorvastatin, but these medications worsened my condition. It became clear that statins were not suitable for me.

I asked my doctor about using turmeric since I had read many science-backed reviews about its ability to manage diabetes. My doctor approved it as a supplement, and to my amazement, the frequent urination stopped, and the stabbing pain ceased. Within a few days, I noticed a significant drop in my blood sugar levels. The constant spikes in my blood sugar without any known cause also stopped.

My Observation

Although I do not know the exact impact of turmeric since I continued taking my prescribed diabetic medications, I know that prior to introducing turmeric, I experienced neuropathic symptoms, frequent urination, and blood sugar spikes. These issues subsided after I started using turmeric.

Administration:

Turmeric can be administered orally in various forms:

  1. As a spice in soups or stews
  2. As a medical supplement in capsule form
  3. As tea

The Method I Employed

Since this is a testimonial, I will describe the method I used to ingest turmeric:

  1. I peel the fresh turmeric root, blend it with ginger and black pepper, and boil it for about ten minutes to make tea. I drink this tea in the morning and evening.
  2. I also use a mixture of:
  1. 1 leveled teaspoon of turmeric powder
  2. 1/2 leveled teaspoon of black pepper powder
  3. 1 leveled teaspoon of ginger powder

This mixture is prepared with oatmeal, sorghum, or millet and taken in the morning and evening.

Why Black Pepper?

Black pepper is essential because turmeric is poorly absorbed by the body on its own.

Black pepper contains piperine, which increases the absorption of curcumin in the bloodstream by inhibiting the enzymes that break it down in the gut.

One review showed that piperine can enhance curcumin absorption by up to 2,000%.

Dosage

Your dosage must be determined by a qualified medical practitioner. It may need to be adjusted when the need arises based on your tolerance and should be decided by your physician.

As such, constant supervision by your doctor is required

A Word of Caution

While turmeric has demonstrated significant health benefits in my case, it is not a substitute for professional medical treatment. It is vital to consult healthcare a professional before incorporating turmeric into your health regimen, especially for managing chronic conditions like diabetes.

Conclusion

I am delighted that my blood sugar levels have been brought under control, and the unexplained spikes have stopped. My levels have not risen beyond 85 mg/dl (4.72 mmol/L) for the past three months.

I am also pleased that turmeric is locally cultivated, readily available in our market, and affordable.

Disclaimer

I do not aim or intend to prescribe turmeric to anyone. If you wish to take turmeric, consult your doctor as I did mine.

My aim is to share my experience in the hope that it may inspire others to explore safe, natural options like turmeric and be helped as I was, but always under the guidance of a qualified medical practitioner.
